Estabrak’s exhibition is currently showing at Hull’s Ferens Gallery. It includes photographs of individuals and groups taken in natural and man-made bodies of water in the Hull area. Estabrak is particularly concerned with the social, political and environmental impact of human activity in this region, defined by its industrial and maritime past, and its trade routes and ties to transmigration and the British Slave trade. The project also considers the continuing impact of past and present political and social activity on individuals and communities.  Several members of the Freetown Society were involved in the creation of the exhibit and performed at the launch of the exhibition.

Estabrak will be in Hull again for most of January and the beginning of February, working at one of the spaces in the East Street Arts on a new installation piece called ‘Homecoming’.

“Homecoming is a multi-faceted participatory project using film, sound and paint for cross-cultural exchanges around identity, home, displacement and community and hopefully will engage a cross section of people in it’s production. You are all welcome to get involved and if you belong to a group whom you would like to get involved/participate then please do let me know. I will be going to Brighton after this to continue the project there with minority groups including those from the LGBTQIA+ section.”
